Though often looked down upon (if, on occasion, rightly!), comic poetry can be just as challenging and rewarding as the “serious” variety.  Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, Spike Milligan and many more recent practitioners have all proved consistently popular.  The short, rhythmic, rhyming style of piece, as well as being immediately appealing, is also open to simple analysis.  Cardiff u3a member, Mike Greenhough who has a scientific background, will consider the extent to which we might come up with guidelines for constructing such pieces from scratch.  He will also perform some of his own pieces which have found favour in competitions and been published or broadcast.
